How Long Does Custom Furniture Last?

The difference in lifespan between custom furniture and manufactured furniture is night and day. Because of how manufactured wood is made, there are major problems with how long it can last. Handmade hardwood furniture, on the other hand, is capable of lasting through generations.
Let’s look at categories. These are the potential lifespans of custom furniture assuming proper, reasonable care is taken.
Kitchen Tables: 100 years+ (Footnote 1)
Coffee Tables: 20-50 years (Footnote 2)
Entryway & End Tables: 40-75 years (Footnote 2)
Dining Chairs & Stools (Depending on loading): 60 years+ (Footnote 3)
Compare that the average lifespan of most manufactured furniture:
Plywood: 15-25 years
MDF/Particle Board: 5-15 years (Footnote 2)
As you can see, the difference is overwhelming. At Plane Truth Woodworks, we don’t want to just make you a chair or a table. We want to make you a piece of lasting history. We want to make you a table that will last long enough to bring you memories — card night and Taco night alike! All kinds of memories are made around a table, and we do our best to preserve the table so those memories can be preserved as well.
