Plane Truth Woodworks…Why the Name?

Plane Truth is a play on words in 3 different ways:

1. Truth

2. Planers

3. Airplanes

First, I believe in telling the truth! A verse that comes to mind is “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) This principle follows me into this business of woodworking. I take great pride in being honest and straight-forward with customers, telling them when I don’t know something or when I do. As a woodworker, I’m not just a salesman, I’m an honest craftsman.

Second, a planer creates a truly straight board. Whether it’s a hand planer or an electric planer, the board isn’t fully straight until it’s finished with the straightening process. Every pass of the planer makes the board straighter and straighter until even the board cannot lie. The board has become straight and true — It’s plane true.

Third….Airplanes. I’m a pilot and a pilot loves airplanes. Plane Truth Woodworks. Reminds me of airplanes every time.

So in the end, Plane Truth Woodworks stuck. There were a few good contenders (Measure Twice Woodworking was a pretty close second). But no name had as much meaning as Plane Truth. It’s all about symbolism & meaning for me. So that’s what it’s alll about - truth, planers & airplanes.
