The difference in lifespan between custom furniture and manufactured furniture is night and day. Because of how manufactured wood is made, there are major problems with how long it can last. Handmade hardwood furniture, on the other hand, is capable of lasting through generations. Let’s look at categories. There’s many factors that go into what wood should be used on a kitchen table. But let’s assume that cost and availability aren’t factors (which, I recognize, are normally big factors). But this is a what I call an ideal — in other words, the real question is this: “What is the IDEAL wood to use for a kitchen table?” I believe the answer is oak, maple, or hickory. Handmade furniture was a thing of the past. But it is still a thing of the present as well! It’s not dead. Not yet, anyways. Not while Plane Truth Woodworks is still in business anyways. We do live in an era where many if not most Americans get their furniture from Amazon delivered the next day, or along with their groceries on a Walmart+ subscription. Many younger generations may baulk at the idea of what they consider to be antiquated furniture. And there is certainly a rea
